Hello everyone!! How is your vidding going? I have to admit that I've spent the week searching for the right song :) Just today I finally downloaded it and am actually starting to think about editing.

I confess I'm a bit curious about one thing: In contrast to the previous exercises, this one has much less rules and restrictions than the others. For those of you who have already taken a stab at it, or even if you're just contemplating doing so, do you find the increased freedom a relief? Or would a few more restrictions help you to dive in more easily? Is the focus on a side character enough of a limit?

I'm sort of viewing the lack of constraints as an opportunity to sort of retrench and try to apply some of the techniques practiced in previous exercises. I am editing together different pieces of a song, and doing some stuff with motion matching...

yes i agree that this excercise lets way more room for creative ideas but i do also rly like when the exercises are a bit more restricting cause it "forces" you to do things differently than how you would normally do them and that, i feel like, rlyyy helped me develop! i noticed when i did the vid for this exercise that i payed more attention to motion/visual matching and played with audios...something i never consciously did before :D (but also im a newb so thats that on that xD)

I found the amount of source I could use enough of a limit on its own, but then I was vidding a movie -- it might be less limiting for a TV show!

It was really interesting to see what dropping all the constraints did. I liked focusing on making it one minute exactly - it helps make tough calls about which clips to use, and not "cheat" and go over just a little bit to fit one more thing and then one more after that.

Going through an 11-episode anime canon I ended up with 30 clips total. That's a ridiculously small amount of source material compared to what I've been working with before, so that was its own challenge. I did feel the temptation to vid the whole song I was working on, but I honestly don't think I could have filled almost four minutes in a satisfying way given the content limitations.

I'm kind of flailing -- there are just WAY TOO MANY good minor characters in Twin Peaks, okay, and I haven't yet found a song that grabs me to the exclusion of all other possibilities.

That was my issue this time, besides current time constraints: TOO MANY CHOICES

Although I did skip exercise 3, I'm enjoying this one. The lack of constraints is actually nice this time. I have a pretty strong idea of where I want to take it.
