tl;dr Who wants to live subject to immoral leaders and exploitive self-sabotaging systems? We are capable of better, and we do have collective powers to choose better and deny support to worse. Let's exercise those powers while we still can avert most of worst.

45k! Much better than last year. Still not close to my 2018-2021 heyday of 100k+/year, but, uh, idk. I guess I need to learn to forgive myself. Or just get into a new fandom. The large numbers came from mostly Guardian fandom (RIP, for all I can remember is the fucking trashfire harassment campaign), bracketed by MDZS at the start (before my flist got anywhere near it, ofc) and Star Wars at the end.
I posted 49 things to AO3 in 2025. Again, mostly for Battleship – some fic, some art, a few vids, one fanmix.

Art/Comics
Hard to pick, this year! I decided against the art listed above, and instead have a mermaid:
Moongazer
(Honorable mention to Die Before You Wake, an OW F/M M-rated comic that is peak cdrama trope)
Fanmix
As is by now tradition, I made an Expanse fanmix! This one's about Laconia, and I uhhh got a bit fancy-ass about the formatting. I long to make a fanmix where the pull lines make a CYOA poem like Obligations 2 (image) by Layli Long Soldier, but, uh, at what point does a fanmix stip being a fanmix and instead become something else? Anyway, this is a regular, linear fanmix, but with the songs plonked into columns based on whether they are about the Leader, the People, or the Planet.
Write the History
Vid
I only published three this year (made a fourth, have one missing like 15 seconds, and then there's my festivids draft). My favorite is actually one of the unpublished ones, I think, but of the published ones I choose this one:
Sister Moon (Side Story of Fox Volant)
Yuan Ziyi is peak and I love the fight scenes and also how she does not compromise her principles for a man.
Fic
Best Title is shared between Breast Foot Forward (OW, F/M, making the most of being forcibly remarried to an Emperor young enough to be your son) and Ka-BOOB (OW, F/F, having your way with the concubine you've been told to breast expand), both of which are lactation kink boob expansion Battleship fics.
"But Pingu, did you write anything other than boob-focused OW porn?" Oh yes I did! This year the theme seems to have been "understated, maybe wistful, potentially hopeful". Have three, with escalating positivity:
Watching the world come undone (MDZS, Wei Wuxian/Jiang Yanli, 1.1k) post-apocalyptic, making the most of a bad situation
Horizons Deep (SWTOR, Acina/Sith Inquisitor, 1k) "What does one want when the wanting is done?" wistful yearning-ish
End of Exile (Expanse, Filip Nagata, 1.3k) post-canon, hopeful ending
(+ OW on the mood: With Eyes Wide Open, F/M steampunk ritual sex)
"But surely you wrote something weird this year????" A bit less weirdery than is typical of me, but I did write something on the unusual end:
reborn (MDZS, Wei Wuxian/OFC, 1.8k)
Wei Wuxian gets resurrected by ... matriarchal necromancers?
I did so much research for this, considering that it's for Battleship, speed writing event extraordinaire. The ruling clans bear the Eight Great Surnames of Chinese Antiquity and then I went on a deep dive of what other Chinese surnames have the woman radical in them. (Spoiler: exclusively the Wei of Wei Wuxian. He was made for this!)
"Pingu, I want something dumber!" OK, have this
The Emperor's New Woes (OW, F/M, 2.1k)
Emperor Zhao Yiqin has, to the consternation of all of his ministers and his eunuch friend Lan He, bought a stack of talismans (which obviously won't work, come on, Your Majesty) from a Daoist (charlatan) in an effort to guarantee conception of a son and heir. Things don't quite go as anyone expected...
Emperor hires Daoist to guarantee that he'll conceive a son with the Empress; ends up being the one carrying the baby. Smut is Emperor/Empress, emotionally the core relationship is Emperor/Head Eunuch (who is plotting to mpregnate the Emperor later).
2025 Resolutions & did I do them
Write 10k
Yes! I wrote over 40k! That's as many as four tens!
Be more present on DW
Uhhhhhh no. Did not really happen. I think I need some level of fannish fixation/new and improved energy.
But on the community front, I did befriend
Get a new
This also didn't happen! However, this didn't happen because the new round didn't start, so I'm pleading force majeure.
2026 Resolutions
Go to a Cultural Event at least once a month
The opera. Ballet. Some other dress-up event. I am giving myself permission to skip July, as I will probably be back home, and idk if there's anything in August, but the goal is 12 events.
Community in fandom, part 1
I think I need to get into a new fandom. Does anyone on DW want to suggest a new fandom for me? Science fiction books and historical/scifi cdramas preferred. In addition to my love for worldbuilding and weird stuff, I love significant female characters that don't have romance-related plots. Must have a fandom on DW that is not just me. (No Murderbot, Guardian, MDZS.) I just want the 2018 Guardian fandom energy and idk, I guess the chance to fall in love with something new. I only need like 2-3 other people, I think, if they're willing to fall in and be active about timeline posts and fanmixes and stuff.
Community in fandom, part 2
I am a member of the fanwork exchange community and shall continue with that. I have
Real announcements will, of course, wait for us to have something to announce; consider this an executive pre-announcement.
Yuletide reveals!
Jan. 2nd, 2026 11:42 pmMy gift was What Comes After Tea by Dira, a delightful Gabriel Ward story. I love those books and this fully had the vibe.
I, however, did this:
The Table Is Eternal (1030 words) by soupytwist
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Dimension 20: On A Bus
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Aabria Iyengar, Brennan Lee Mulligan, Matthew Mercer, Katie Marovitch, Jasmine Bhullar
Additional Tags: not exactly rpf but, rpg madness
Summary:
"Hello everyone and welcome back to Dimenson 20: On a Bus. I am your humble Dragon Master, Katie Marovitch, and with me as always are – hey, stop poking me!"
Yep, I inflicted Dimension 20: On a Bus fic on the world, which was both very easy and very difficult. Easy, because I love these people and I enjoy ridiculousness. Difficult, because I was sort of hoping to do an actual RPG plot but then when I reviewed the canon for like the 57th time and still didn't find any sort of hook to hang plot on, I had to admit it might be Too Crack For That. But I had a great time and it is nice to be back into Yuletiding again!
... maybe I will get back into Dreamwidth this year? Stranger things have happened.
Vague plannings for 2026

Meme: Quarterly Intentions (1/4)
Jan. 1st, 2026 06:47 amSome years I make a practice of committing to quarterly intentions rather than new year's resolutions. I find it helps me lean into the rhythms specific to each season, and the shorter time frame lends itself to selecting more feasible goals that may yet build to larger ambitions.
In the comments, I encourage you to join me in sharing one or more intentions you have of any size for the first quarter of this year (January, February, March), and what you might do on a daily or weekly basis to nurture them. If you would like to do so privately, all anonymous comments on this post will remain screened unless you explicitly okay otherwise.
Yuletide Recs 2025
Dec. 31st, 2025 10:58 amCopying these over from Tumblr! Have 25 recs in 16 fandoms. (There may be more recs post-reveals as I do more reading.)
Batman: Wayne Family Adventures
- big brother shaped (18k, Jason & Dick) — Angsty age regression fic where little Dick is NOT how Jason expected him to be. Full of feelings and hurt/comfort and quality Batfamily dynamics. (I haven't gotten to the other WFA fics yet, but there are many this year!)
Bend It Like Beckham
- Play Our Songs Again (4k, Jess/Jules) — "Jules hasn't seen Jess in three years, and there's a whole lot of history tangled up in seeing her again." Future fic with a healthy dose of pining.
- sorry to bother you (6k, Jess/Jules) — "Five times Jules crashed a date, and one time Joe didn’t."
Billy Elliot
- ✩ In case I need it when I'm older (6k, Michael-centric, Billy/Michael) — Wonderful character study of Michael and his journey around gender/sexuality post-canon, leading up to the scene in the film where he meets Billy's family in the audience of Swan Lake. Loved the Billy voice too — he's so internal, but still waters run deep, and he's a rock-steady support for Michael.
Dimension 20
- ✩ boom or bus (4k, D20: On a Bus, gen) — HYSTERICAL. I did not think someone could capture the feel of this video so well in fic. There's a crossover cameo I will not spoil but that is PERFECT.
- A Long Expected Party (Preparations) (2k, Bloodkeep, Leiland/Markus) — Cute fic about the preparations for Leiland Jr.'s first birthday party (and the long-expected return of Markus St. Vincent, but why would Leiland care about that).
- A Rich (and Insane) Inner Life (4k, Cloudward Ho!, Wealwell gen) — "Wealwell Gotch is on a very different adventure." Never have enough Wealwell.
- ✩ Theories of Correspondence (3k, Cloudward Ho!, Maxwell/Torse) — "Torse and Maxwell exchange letters that are Perfectly Normal and Not Filled With Yearning, Nope." Absolutely cannot get enough of these two, Blorbo and 'ship of the year for me, tbh. This is pitch-perfect and I love Olethra's fanfic and their reactions. (Olethra, you are messy!!)
Doctor Odyssey
- bubbling like champagne (4k, Max/Avery/Tristan) — A bit of a canon corrective. Max, Avery, and Tristan reunited at New Year's and revisit past relationship decisions.
Heated Rivalry
- Cunk on Hockey (2k, crossover) — "Philomena Cunk travels to Canada to interview Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, the goal being to sell hockey to British audiences." Cunk on Earth stresses me out too much to watch but I can't seem to get enough of it in fic, lol.
- working on my backcheck (5k, Shane/Ilya) — Shane loves Ilya so much that he's even willing to top for him. Sweet and hot.
Jeeves & Wooster
- ✩ Jeeves and the Knot in the Tie of Time (9k, Jeeves/Wooster) — Jeeves is trapped in a time loop. Delightful Wodehousian voice! I couldn't stop reading bits aloud.
Lord Peter Wimsey
- ✩ a certain group of women (3k, Harriet & the Dowager Duchess) — Harriet invites the Dowager Duchess along to a talk she gives at Shrewsbury. Absolutely lovely expansion on the themes of women's education from Gaudy Night.
- The Day After (5k, Harriet/Peter) — A coda to Busman's Honeymoon. Harriet and Peter are left to fend for themselves when Bunter is called away.
- ✩ Happiness In Time of Joy (2k, Peter & Jerry & Bunter, Harriet/Peter) — "Certain scenes which took place before Peter Wimsey's wedding." Very sweet, especially Jerry's best man speech delivered just for Peter!
The Lottery
- ✩ Why one small American town won't stop stoning its residents to death (1k, gen) — pitch perfect New Yorker-style interview with the guy who runs the Lottery in "The Lottery" (don't worry, the NYer diaresis is there)
Mad Men
- Wichita (1k, crack, Pete-centric with minor Pete/Bob) — 'Tis the season for time loops, apparently! This one cracked me up. Pete is keeps finding himself getting on a plane to Wichita in 1970 and ending up back in '65 or '66. (Bob wonders if maybe there's something he hasn't tried yet to break the loop. "Maybe an unusual, unexpected, really out-there choice. One that you've never thought of for yourself, but could be open to, if you just tried to let it into your heart for the feelings to take hold and bloom.")
Murderbot
- I'd Like to Show You the Ropes (6k, Murderbot & Gurathin) — "Gurathin gets a second chance to make his offer when SecUnit returns to Preservation." Well characterized look at these two finding their place on Preservation.
Persuasion
- ✩ Loved None But You (22k, AU, Anne/Frederick) — "What would have happened if Wentworth had been the one injured in Lyme?" I adored this what if! A hint of (realistically handled) amnesia, lovely hurt/comfort, plenty of competent Anne, and the delicious tension around how this situation exposes past feelings.
- Once, Long Ago (4k, AU, Anne/Frederick) — Anne and Frederick's reunion happens much later than in canon. Sweet middle aged romance.
Point Break
- High Tension and Low Tide (1k, Johnny/Bodhi) — "Sometimes you have to trust the fall." Missing scene and the regret that follows.
- ✩ Insane and Rising (4k, AU, Johnny/Bodhi) — Gorgeous take on a different first meeting between Johnny and Bodhi, pre-canon. Perfect Bodhi voice (how does he make all the bullshit he says sound so compelling?).
Rivers of London
- ✩ What Abigail And Ione Did That January (10k, Abigail/Ione) — I loved the focus on Abigail in the latest RoL book; this expands on that book's cute romance and builds a nice bit of casefic around the secret agent foxes that Abigail is close with.
Sports Night
- The Cut Man Faileth Upwards (2k, Dan/Casey) — Future established relationship fic. Thank God for Yuletide giving me my annual dose of Dan/Casey.
Worlds Beyond Number
- ✩ Five Spells Suvi Knows (and one she doesn't) (3k, gen) — "How Suvi's magic was forever changed by a witch and a wild one." Really well-characterized look at Suvi's shifting perspective on magic as her understanding of the world grows and changes
Year in Review
Dec. 31st, 2025 09:08 amI virtually attended Citrus Con this year, I think because I saw someone talking about it on Bluesky, and it was a very right-time alignment for reminding me how I used to be really into manga/anime. I’ve been keeping up with anime somewhat through watching with friends but not seriously keeping track of what I might be interested in or reading manga. So now I’m getting caught up.
Lurking in the Citrus Squad discord led me to discovering Korean webcomics. Now I’m in a bunch of tiny fandoms, following 23 ongoing webcomics and keeping tabs on 13 that are on hiatus. As someone who wants fanvids of all the things I love, this has also meant getting a TikTok account because that’s where the edits/vids fandom is for Korean webcomics, so that’s also been a new experience. I haven’t started vidding webcomics yet but I’m definitely observing what I think works, or doesn’t, and hoping that I figure out vidding still images effectively for myself in the next year. This has also meant learning new pronunciation and proper nouns for podfic, which is a bit harder coming from webcomics than Kdramas because at least with dramas I have the show audio to try and mimic, but for webcomics by the time I start recording something I have possibly been pronouncing words incorrectly in my head for a while. So I’m starting to learn phonetic interpretation of transliteration of Korean better (I hope).
I’m now also dipping my toes in the world of Korean webnovels, in addition to having been consistently reading (or listening to) danmei over the course of the last year. I anticipate finishing 2ha in the coming year, and getting to enjoy catching up on the fandom without fear of spoilers. And once that happens I’ll probably get back into Critical Role as my primary audio-accompaniment to the hours and hours of physical therapy I have to do every week. But I am interested in webnovels as long-form story telling, enjoying what I’ve read so far, and curious to check out more of the fan translations particularly for genres that interest me (Korean hunterverse webnovels have been a good match for tropes I like).
I started doing embroidery last year, so that’s a creative thing I’ve been doing this whole year. I’ve done a few fannish pieces this year, but hope to do more in the next year. (Last year was Perihelion polar fleece, MDZS bunnies, and Utena shadow girls, this year was a humpback whale for Lays of the Hearth Fire, SVSSS bingqiu, a Ghibli-esque train and rice fields image (ongoing), and a character for a gift swap - perhaps I should do an embroidery specific post with pics at some point). My plan for what’s next is a Moshang thread painting fanart piece.
Podfic
This year I posted 62 podfics totaling 91 hours. That’s ~20 hours more than last year, which makes sense as I did more long podfics than normal - SVSSS is very good for long fic. I went into the year intending to record 2 ~120k fics, I wound up adding to that several in the 30-90k range.
I recorded in 20 fandoms, primarily Lays of the Hearth-Fire, Scum Villian’s Self-Saving System, Summer Hikaru Died, and S Classes That I Raised.
Most popular: Oversharing is Caring by Prudabaga
Personal Favorite: Embers by alfgifu and Tarnished Gold by Prim_the_Amazing tying for first place in this category as two of my long projects this year that I particularly loved
Completed goals
- Record the rest of the Embers series by alfgifu
- Record some long SVSSS fic - and how! I did 5 podfics of at least 40k each. This was more than I was even anticipating when I set this goal last December. SVSSS fandom has been such a joy <3
- Participate in VoiceTeam
- Continue making cover art for all my podfic
What’s next (future goals)
- VoiceTeam participation
- Continue making cover art
- If particular author completes a particular SVSSS WIP - ask for permission & if granted record (preferably as part of PodficBigBang, but idk if author will be finished timely for that and I’m waiting to ask for recording permission for when they’re done)
- Podfic for Blind Go (if I get permission from author of fic I’m thinking of for it)
- Get all my stuff duplicated to SquidgeWorld so I have diversification off AO3 (I’ve been sidetracked onto other projects and this one has been backburnered so idk when it might realistically happen, maybe this is a 2027 thing)
- Get all my stuff backed up onto the audiofic archive - happily I might be able to rely on the kindness of others and not do this myself since I keep failing to do it.
Vids
I made final drafts of a total of 13 vids this year. I have 3 vids in-progress at the moment. I don’t have any dominant fandom this year, a selection of Festivids fandoms and some anime.
Personal Favorite: expert in a dying field (my VidUKon GPOY vid, I do enjoy wallowing in my tropes)
Viewer favorite (views/kudos):
Both YT and AO3 agree on the same vid this year: Vigilante Shit
Most fun: Intricate Rituals
Hardest to make: Rust - I signed up for this fandom for Festivids last year knowing the show was ongoing, turns out I don’t like trying to make a vid for an actively ongoing canon, I don’t enjoy constructing a vid when not entirely sure what I’ll get out of the last episodes of a season. Suffice to say I now know I prefer to vid a canon once a season is complete (even if there will be future seasons).
Things I learned this year: I feel like I’m getting better at audio editing (thank you sandalwoodbox!).
Completed goals:
- I sent vids to some cons
- keep growing diversity of my music collection but also listen more to songs of artists I’ve liked so I can be familiar with them/know them well.
Ongoing goals:
- make another collaborative vid w/ sandalwoodbox (we did a tiny bit of work on this but still very much ongoing)
Future Goals:
- Make and send AMVs to AMV Contests?
- Make a webcomic vid?
Fic
I wrote one fic for Yuletide this year, so just a little bit once again, but I felt better about my writing process this year and I want to see if I can keep writing over the course of the next year. I feel really rusty but like I could enjoy it if I got back into writing regularly like I used to. I had an idea for an additional fic but didn’t write it. Hopefully I’ll do more in the new year without needing Yuletide as encouragement to write.

The Queens of Animation by Nathalia Holt
A history of women working at Walt Disney Productions. Primarily focusing on the era between 1937 to Disney's death in 1966, she also the most modern era of Disney through The Lion King in 2018.
She covers conditions in the workplace, WWII and its aftermath, the affects of technical development on staff & film making, racism and misogyny in the workplace and more.
For the earliest era I took the time to watch some of the early films I hadn't seen. I was really impressed by the surreal and almost psychedelic opening of Fantasia. Also, just before WWII started Disney took some of his top animators & illustrators along on a State Department sponsored trip to South America. The resulting film, Saludos Amigos, included a beautiful sequence on Rio de Janeiro made from Mary Blair's fantastic watercolor sketches she made during the trip.
Archimagus-Anglo Gallica" or Excellent and Approved Receipts and Experiments in Cookery by Sir Theodore Mayerne
Published in 1658, this was a surprisingly good book including at least a couple or recipes I hadn't ever seen in a book this early, including sweet potato pie and instructions for making an egg wash for pastry.
Hokolua Road by Elizabeth Hand
Deftly weaves Hawaiian folklore, a touch of horror, and a serial killer mystery.
Joyride by Guy Adams
This was a tie-in novel for the Doctor Who spin-off Class. The heart of the story in an unscrupulous person gets his hands on an alien machine that temporarily transfer a persons consciousness into another's body and then rents out time on the machine to some very nasty people.
