So the 8th Vexercise for the 2.0 round is the same as for the O.G. round: a free vid, no rules! Even the 1 minute restriction is gone! (Unless you really wanna hold onto it...or you could go even shorter, and make a instagram or tiktok vid :D)

The only guidelines here are: do your best to draw on the tools we've been playing with throughout the vexercises, some or all of them, it's up to you.

Vexercise 8: Free Vid!

Deploy any and all of these techniques to make the fan video edit of your heart, including but not limited to your chosen source, length entirely up to you! Try to deploy some combination of the various techniques you explored in the exercises along the way.

"The Boxer" (Gravity Falls) on AO3, gen, contains a few brief flashes. A character study of Stan Pines, who most people can probably figure by now is my favorite character, with some parallels drawn to Dipper Pines.

Although I've finished this, I'm probably going to try to go back and make a few other exercises for the alternate source I was playing with. I'm having fun, but will take a little break!

Ah love the way you used graphic matching to show the passage of time, in general there was a lovely sense of nostalgia

There's one segment that I just lifted from the show, because it was just so perfect, but I did try to do some graphic matching with just that intention! I'm glad the nostalgia aspect came through; it was so difficult to manage all those photographic elements but I didn't want to give up on it.

Decided to try and take a slight genre shift with this one, and work on fan-editing with manga, honestly almost had to teach myself animation skills, but it was fun to give it a try

Fear and Delight

I really enjoyed my time participating in these challenges! I think it really pushed me as an editor, and if I have time I might drop in with Summer School to get some more specific practice, but otherwise I am also gonna give myself a bit of a break

That was very interesting and had some sharp editing along with a sharp concept. I really enjoyed what you were able to do with the panels!

Thank you! One of the things I enjoyed about the process was having so much control over timing and movement, the downside is of course you don't get to luck into happy little moments of sync, but when I have the brain power, it can be a lot of fun to play around with

In Your Eyes [Starsky/Hutch]

Didn't really try anything new, technique-wise, but worked in more visual continuity, rhythmic editing, and graphic matching.

Thanks so much for running this! The summer session sounds great, I plan to re-visit some of the Vexes I didn't get to in my first go-round (not to mention go back and watch the vids I haven't had time for yet), so I'll be popping in :D
