Vexercise 7 Drops! Multivids FTW

 Hi everyone!

 

Wow, here it is in June and we're on to the 7th vexercise, Advanced Round: Multivids!

 

And we're on to Vexercise 7!!! After this one, there's only one more, the free vid, when you get to vid (to) your hearts desire! 

 

For this vexercise, the guidelines are as follows:

 

7) Advanced round // multivid:

 

In a one minute video, put your media source choice in conversation with other media using match on action, graphic matching, audio layering, and lyrical play.

 

If this is your second time doing this challenge, then the 2.0 version is:  same prompt, but try using more sources than you did the first time for your multivid!

fray-adjacent's Ghibli multivid The Memory of Trees is absolutely stunning. And as someone who used a couple of Ghibli movies for last year's exercise I am wildly impressed by how flawless this footage from very different sources with regard to framerate/aspect ratio looks.

So this might be a silly question but are we supposed to be using all 4 techniques? Or picking and choosing from them?

You can do whatever works for you! I think you will find it surprisingly easy to incorporate the things from your earlier exercises ;) when using more than one source, things like action or graphic matching really help tie the vid together. But for example if you can't get even a few seconds of audio layering to work in without messing up your concept, then don't try to force something that doesn't come naturally.

Thank youuuu that is what I assumed! The graphic/action matching is sort of second nature at this point but the audio/lyrical play not so much.

Now I just need a concept lol.

I haven't watched all of Gravity Falls, but xxxHoLic is perhaps my favorite series of all time, and my daughter has been after me to vid it for ages (and I'm gonna give in soon I think :D) I loved how you drew out the parallels here... is Gravity Falls really that creepy? :D You had these amazing parallels and match on actions that made me feel yes, at least in parts, perhaps it is. This was super super cool.

Gravity Falls definitely can get creepy, but the visuals are creepier without the context, I think. There's a lot of humor in the show that alleviates the horror. Thank you so much; there was a lot that I remembered simply from having watched xxxHoLic recently (the hand sequence in particular) that made it easier than I thought it would be, but collecting every image was still work. I'm happy it paid off!

I'll definitely be watching for that vid. xxxHoLic is such a lovely show.

Decided to stick to a theme of "pink and purple girlfriends" and vid Revolutionary Girl Utena and Puella Magi Madoka Magica, definitely put me in a different headzone, a greater focus on flow and imagery as opposed to the heavy lyrical play I tend to gravitate towards

I adored this!! you brought out parallels between the two shows/pairings beautifully, and the rhythmic editing was so so cool. Love it!

Ahaha thank you! I was little embarrassed to get distracted from my original goal of practicing match on action more, but the song choice made the rhythmic editing so much fun, I couldn't resist :P

This is just so... beautifully cohesive. It feels like one show. I love the rhythmic editing in this one, too, and all the surreal imagery.

Thank you so much! I had that door clip and knew it would be so fun to use it for "we've places to go," and from there I just had a lot of fun in trying to pair the two shows through color
