lola: (vexercises)

Hello everyone! It's crazy that we've made it this far, and it's been so wonderful to see everyone's vidding explorations along the way!

This last exercise lifts the 1 minute "restriction," and there's no particular focus, but it does ask you to draw on the tools we've been playing with throughout the vexercises:

Vexercise 8: Free Vid!

Deploy any and all of these techniques to make the fan video edit of your heart, including but not limited to your chosen source, length entirely up to you! Try to deploy some combination of the various techniques you explored in the exercises along the way.

Now I realize two weeks is on the short side for making a full vid, but it is *possible,* though the process will certainly look different than for a vid that say takes six months. But I know that I sometimes find a release in a tight deadline that helps me loosen up on my perfectionism and just go for it, and then send something out into the world, and so I hope that can be the spirit of this final exercise!

Please share any questions here! Ooh, and any thoughts you have on the Vexercises as a whole! We'll make a post later asking for feedback about particular exercises, which ones could be adjusted, which worked best...but would love to hear any initial thoughts you have about the process overall here.

I have absolutely loved the Vexercises, which have gotten me from "I could never vid, I don't have the eye or tech knowledge for it" to - well. Actually vidding! With one for real vid and six 1-minute vidlets under my belt, and lots and lots of great feedback to help me continue this particular form of fannish creativity.

Thank you so much Lola and Boni for running this, and for making it so welcoming and encouraging! ♥

I'm going to have to think about this. It feels like I've said everything I wanted to say in a Tampopo vid already. I'll look around for some music to inspire me in a new direction, maybe

Oh color grading, my greatest nemesis... I have the whole 3:39 thing clipped, but there's a bit that's a ... quasi dream sequence? and I'm having trouble figuring out how to make that stand out from the regular stuff and the flashback stuff and not look hideous. Or whether I should fold that in with the flashback stuff. Hmm.

Okay, there, two days of twiddling with color grading later, I'm done! Catch You When You Fall, Guardian, 3:39, canon divergence and massive spoilers.

Thank you for hosting this! I've had a lot of fun learning how to vid, and this challenge was an excellently supportive framework for doing just so.

I decided I'd made enough respectable MV-based vids, and made a less respectable one using the stages instead: Feel Free to Imagine. It's still pretty short, because I needed to restrain myself somehow :D

I have enjoyed the exercises a lot, and trying out different things! Thanks for organising <3

Oh those poor people, but also, my heart. I like how this showcases how dramatic the source is, while also being full of warmth. For a draft, it's also very rounded.

You're very brave for vidding a source you're not that yet very familiar with, but I've enjoyed everything you made. Thank you!

Thanks! The fine tuning I'm still doing is mostly about figuring out how to balance that warmth:drama ratio. It's tricky.

Done! "If Crazy Equals Genius" a character study of Yukawa Manabu; the vid contains flashes, fast cuts, and explicit language, on AO3.
