Hello all! Happy Saturday/Sunday depending on where you are! How are you going with your rhythmic editing vexercise?

If you've started already (or finished), are there things you're finding challenging? Satisfying? Both at once?

I really enjoyed this one and especially enjoyed the bonus version using vocals and instrumentation as the basis for my edit but the syncopation was fun too! Anyone else who has finished have any insights they'd like to share re their process? Things that were challenging/satisfying?

If you're stuck and not quite sure how to start we'd love to help. If you feel up to sharing your ideas/approach maybe we can all help brainstorm! Equally if you really don't know where to start let us know and maybe we can figure it out together!

As I was poking around for a song to use for this exercise, I ended up with an idea for a full-length vid and decided to try and get it done in time to submit to the Premieres show at the FanWorks in August. So, I guess I won't actually be doing a vid for this exercise.

I also got sidetracked by a vid idea, so I haven't made any progress on this vexercise yet.

Battle of the Sexes (2017) - Get Lucky.

Idk how to feel about this--I am actually editing another vid for this challenge rn because it feels to me like it doesn't properly fit the theme of rhythmic editing.

I've been having a terrible time coming up with a song/concept... I've only been actually vidding for about a year and a half and most of the vids I've made were ideas that marinated in my brain for years before I got over the technical hurdles. I also haven't been listening to much new music since Covid hit, so nothing is really tickling my brain.

One of my abandoned attempts at last prompt had a really strong beat, so I might try salvaging it into this prompt.

Working on this seems to help! ...and I just finished one for this!

I don't have a strong sense of rhythm so I'm using the waveform and counting a lot. It's a good learning experience; I really appreciate when I watch vids that do this kind of editing well. I'm trying to keep the theme simple and not overthink it.

DaVinci Resolve! Thank you, the transient detect will make marking go a lot faster. And I've been wondering where to place the cuts, so that video was very helpful, too.

Thank you--looking back I'm happy with how it turned out! (And the second vid is coming along nicely too.)

Made a second vid! The Borgias - River. Only used clips I already had saved, which was something of a challenge.

The two-week time period is a good thing for me because I'm usually a perfectionist (my latest full-sized vid is something I've been working on since February, for example, and it's still not finished)--going to try to keep the habit of actually finishing vids instead of worrying over minor details.
