Hello all! Happy Saturday! How are your Vexercise 2s going? Are folks trying for match on action? Light building? Both?
I was messing around with something and then it got out of control and became a vid not a vexercise, so back to square one for me :D
If you've started already, are there things you're finding challenging? Satisfying? Both at once?
If you're stuck and not quite sure how to start, maybe share your thinking, your idea, your approach, and we can all help brainstorm!

I have an idea, and I have a song! I just need to find the clips and make sure that what I picture in my memory is *actually* what happened onscreen. *wry grin*

[ETA] I'm going for match on action.

I was going to try to do this exercise for After the Matinee, but after I'd done clipping and had almost finished editing, I'd realized I'd skipped ahead to the next exercise unwittingly. I'll just hang on to that and stay satisfied with what I accomplished already.

I still found this very challenging, because I wanted to stick with the one episode, but twenty minutes of source is very limited, so I did what I could. I'd wanted to do more on the light-building side, but as it is, I think I landed more on graphic matching. It's all good. *nod*

I am mired, ugh! I have a 1 minute audio that's all about light! A source that's nothing but (doomed ships and) light and yet I cannot seem to make this work.

I'm also using the Vexercises as an excuse to broaden my skills on the DaVinci Fusion tab. I've made no progress on this vidlet in 3 days, despite hours of fiddling with clips. My big learn right now might be that my brain can't handle learning and creating at the same time. Like, seriously, I'd anticipated having the basic timeline built by now and the last few days spent in the stuff I really like - shifting stuff 2 frames to the left/swapping out this clip for that clip/rewatching my timeline endlessly - but I don't even have a timeline at this point.

Ugh.

Anyway. I have a workday starting soon so the plan for this evening is to grab a new song, ditch the light building and try the motion match version - and pause my Fusion training until next weekend.

I am so glad to learn I am not the only person who cannot learn while creating - I have to separate the two - I can do, like, a sample exercise while learning, but if I try to blend both sides of my brain at the same time and create something while in the process it takes so long, I just go too slow and get too frustrated! Solidarity fist bump.

I have completed my motion vid, and I'd like to do a light one as well, but I'm lost on what I'm supposed to be doing. Watching other people's vids isn't helping, either. Can someone give me a brief overview?

I went back and forth on music a bit and am still not 100% sure I'm happy with my song choice, but I guess the point of exercises is experimentation so I'm rolling with what I've got to see what comes of it. I'm focusing mostly on match-on-shape and match-on-action, with some attention to the color and direction of light (Atomic Blonde is really big on having every shot be either SUPER BLUE or SUPER PINK, it's hilarious once you start looking closely!). I got set back slightly because I had to buy a new laptop last week and transfer all my files before I could open Premiere, but new laptop is very fast and sexy at video work, so it's a net gain!

Well, I picked an idea that I thought would give me lots of clips with similar motions to play with ... er, not so much. It appears that the Rats (and their sympathetic opponent) perform insubordination in a wide variety of ways!

On the other hand, I did manage some motion matching in a couple of places. Plus I got to be SO much more familiar with, and less frustrated by, Filmora, w00t!

Senior Service/Junior Dissatisfaction

[Edited to add] Elvis Costello writes brilliant lyrics and then sings them so no one can understand them, so I'm going to figure out how to add subtitles using Filmora and add the lyrics to the vid. Might take me a couple days!

The opening was very strong with the jeeps! I really liked the motion matching there.

I wasn't even thinking of that as motion matching! I just liked the idea of the two "leaping jeeps" from the opening credits fitting with the instrumental opening of the song, and since there wasn't enough material between them, I took apart a 3-part turn from one of the source episodes and used that to fill up the interstices.

I'm so glad it worked! And thank you so much for watching and for your supportive comment. <3
