Vexercise 5 check-in

Happy Saturday/Sunday everyone! How are you going with your colour/colour grading/lightbuilding vexercise?

If you've started already (or finished), are there things you're finding challenging? Satisfying? Both at once?

I ended up getting carried away with mine and accidentally ended up with a whole vid which I'm about to post.

It seems lightbuilding is a confusing concept for a bunch of folks and I would say it's really up for interpretation. In my mind it's using the lighting (natural or artificial) like you would use movement or graphic matching - letting the flow of it guide your editing choices. If anyone has more questions please ask! And/or if you're stuck with colour, let us know and we can chat about it :)

On the bright side, I have all the clips I want to use, plus some extra!

On the not-so-bright side, I still haven't found any music I could use for this, or a cohesive narrative :/.

I did end up finding a song by scrolling through YouTube, so thank you for the suggestion!

When this happened to me, I just went with an instrumental and let the clips do their thing :)

I have A Vid. I am not quite sure if it fulfills the challenge, though, since I went "Oh, I'll do a vid with a strong color scheme/aesthetic" which is not quite what the challenge is about, and my footage takes LUTs very badly. I did adjust the coloration in a few clips to match the rest, but that's about it.

I am so stressed that I have "failed" to get things in by the "deadline" that I would appreciate reassurance even if I know it's always okay to submit things late...! I really want to do all of the Vexercises this year, because they're super fun and creative, but I've been doing outdoor things to take advantage of Sweden's short summer, and now anxiety brain is basically convinced that "oh no I will get a bad grade in vidding". (This is funny because I feel there is nowhere else that gives such good support in vidding!! Honestly I know I could roll up six months from now and it would still be okay. But you know. Brains.)

This was exactly what I needed to hear!! Thank you so much. ♥ Excited to get back into vidding once the outdoor weather ends and the days get too short for outdoor activities to be tempting after work.

I’m having a lot of trouble with this one. I started with the idea of organizing clips by color, so I made groups of red, blue, gold, etc. - clips that were predominantly that color. That's as far as I've gotten! I thought I would maybe use instrumental music, that it would be easier. But no ideas for how to organize the clips into some kind of narrative or theme. I've gotten so clenched about it, I haven't sat down to just throw clips in a timeline to hash it out, which might give me some kind of idea. I think I really need music, which is how I usually start. Anyway, pretty blocked. I then thought, well, just make a vid with a song you like and apply a LUT and call it a day, forget about the color groupings.

The one remaining song idea I have for this fandom DOES relate to light/dark, so maybe I should change tack and go for a light building theme. ARGH!
