Vexercises 3.0

Hello Vexercise folks old & new! Lola and I have been discussing getting a new round going for Spring and we have decided that now is the time for Vexercises 3.0!

This round will consist of seven vexercises, including the free vid, with two weeks to complete each one (technically! Please see below regarding our “due dates” policy) There will be a choice for most of the rounds, generally drawing on the O.G/2.0 Vexercises with some tweaks here and there.

Logistics:

The way this works is: We drop a vexercise every two weeks on Sunday, with some explanation around it and examples. Feel free to ask questions or to share examples of vids that are in the vein of a particular challenge, or relevant resources in that post. We want this to be a collaborative space :)

A week later on the Saturday we'll make a check in post to see how everyone is doing. And the following Saturday, the vexercise will be "due." Then, the next day (Sunday) we'll drop the next vexercise, and follow the same two-week cycle!

Quick note on due dates and rules:

Due dates are always as firm or as flexible as you need them to be for your creative process and/or RL schedule. And that goes for pretty much anything re: the vexercises, including the "rules" of each vexercise, even the one minute length. You can take them as iron clad if that helps you, or you can approach them as more flexible guidelines if you'd rather.

We’ll be dropping the first vexercise next Sunday May 29th, which means it will be "due" on Saturday June 11th with the next one dropping June 12th. For now, please feel free to introduce yourself in the comments and let us know what source you might be wanting to play with (if you have decided! If not, feel free just to say hi or ask any questions you might have!)

Aaaaah! I'm glad you're running it again! I'm going to try to finish it this year. :D

Yay! I'm glad this is happening again! I learned SO MUCH doing the summer school last year, so I am definitely going to try and take part as much as possible again this year!

Oh this is exciting! I'd been eyeing the previous rounds but never got around to it.

At the moment I almost exclusively make Naruto AMVs (for two years now, wow) but I may branch out for this and use a movie... I guess I have a week to decide! I'm only really familiar with animated sources because that way it's easier to edit out anything you don't like :D

I'll give it a shot. Glad to see this return. I've always had it in the back of my mind that I would finish the 2021 Vexercises. *goes off to think about what source to use*. Some possibilities: Our Flag Means Death, Star Wars Sequels (used for last completed vid so it's ready to go), Shang Chi, Loki, Wandavision.

A little intro:
I haven't been into any particular fandom for a number of years. Last one I was really into was Stucky which I fell out of around 2016. Brief flirtations with Black Sails, The Old Guard (which I used for 2021 Vexercises). Still enjoy parts of the MCU and try to keep up (Eternals, argh, painful). I did a fair amount of vidding many years ago. Started to get back into it last year.

Ooh, I might do this. I've been struggling to make a few MCU vids that require source from a LOT of movies and shows and it's been hard to keep track of all the places I need to look for clips, so maybe doing some MCU minivids would help me get up to speed on where everything is, the way the first Vexercises helped me make a complicated Grey's Anatomy vid.

DO it! Your vexercises vid about the coffee mug from Grey's always lives in my head as a fun example of what vidding can be!

Hi! Glad to see this is running again, though let's see if I have the time to finish the thing. I might take the chance to actually use some of the screen captures from my Star Wars: the Old Republic runs in something...

Hello! I'm hoping to join in, although I do have a busy summer coming up. My fandom is The Untamed. I'm a brand new vidder, I've tried out some pechakuchas but haven't finished a full length vid (although I have started...uh...several). Looking forward to learning a lot!

I am considering installing video editing software so I can play… don’t tell [personal profile] nu_breed

I’m Francis, haven’t made fanworks in many many years, but have been watching [personal profile] nu_breed vid and might give it a little go. I’ll be using My Country: The New Age and we’ll see how far I get.

I'm valoise and I've been vidding for a long time for a wide range of sources, but haven't done much for the past couple of years, other than one vid for Only Murders in the Building. I did participate in the first vexercise using the movie Tampopo. It was really satisfying and one of the one-minute vids I made then is going to be part of a vidshow for VidUKon next month.

I feel like I need a nudge to try new techniques and approaches to composing narrative from source materials so this should be just the kickstart I need. I've been thinking about working with Kurosawa's No Regrets for Our Youth for a while, so I might use that. I'll have to think about it, though.

Hey y'all! I really enjoyed my Vexercise experience last time, felt like I really learned a lot about editing, so I'm excited for it to return. Don't know for certain what sources I might use as I like to jump around, but this year I might do some GMVs and use Nier Automata footage.

I played around with some vidding several years ago (I think I was using movavi, after switching from windows movie maker) after my sibling got into it. They were making a few fanvids for kpop/jrock songs that didn’t have mvs. (I think some are still up actually, YouTube says that was thirteen years ago, huh.) I did a few things when modding a fest and some other stuff (r.i.p. vine), but computer stuff happened and so I haven’t had any video editing software installed for years. I’ve been meaning to get back into it, and have a YouTube playlist of source stuff that I’ve been saving for over a year, but intertia is strong! Just yesterday though, I had to figure how to use shotcut for basic editing at work. That, in tandem with getting this post alert, and the fact that this round coincides with the end of [community profile] voiceteam (and the fun energy that comes out of that) will hopefully be the nudge I need to actually get back into it.

I’ve been wanting to use ENHYPEN mvs as a core for a vid ever since they debuted, but also recently got into the Thai drama Something in my Room and have all that source now, so I hope to work with those too.

I was thinking of using shotcut since it’s free and open source and seems like it’ll run okay on my pretty old laptop (Windows 10, 8 GB RAM, i7 2.0 GHz CPU, nvidia GeForce GTX 560M graphics chip), but if there is any other software someone would recommend I’m all ears! (The number of choices are a little overwhelming.)

I'd like to give this a try, using an animated film (haven't decided which one yet). I don't know how many I'll be able to manage with my cheapo editing software though...

Specs and cost. My working desktop computer still runs Windows 7. I have a more recent laptop that runs Windows 10, but it needs to be repaired. As for software, I have MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 2016 right now (I had Adobe Premiere for a year, but couldn't afford to keep subscribing). Regarding Da Vinci Resolve, my mom said it sounded like a scam and wouldn't let me get it.

Yay! I hope to participate. Last year I did, but I'm going to need to get a new computer first, since it was a struggle to get my 12 year old computer to do the most basic things in Davinci Resolve.

I love seeing what everyone produces!

Hi! I will try to do some of these if I have time between every other thing I am currently committed too XD.

I have a small amount of experience with video editing and I'm currently in My Country: The New Age fandom (please join us, it's tiny!) so I will try to use that and maybe some other Asian dramas, although not sure which ones yet!

I am going to try this this year! I thought about it last year but was very new to vidding at the time and felt intimidated.

I'll probably be using Star Wars (mostly movies) as source material.
