Vex 3 (Belatedly) Drops!

Hi all! It's (past) time for Vexercise 3 to get its roll out. So here we go!

The new summer school version of Vex 3 is:

Vexercise 3 Focus on Color/Color Grading: (1 minute video) Let color guide the logic and flow of this vexercise, either by selection or special effects. Highly recommended: download an LUT or more and try using it!

There are soooo many LUT resources out there. Here are a few links you could try:

Comment below with your favorite vids that use color creatively, or any additional resources you know about coloring, or any questions you have!

And as always, you can also do the older versions of Vex 3, Audio Layering Supercut or Rhythmic Editing.

The OG Vexercise 3:

Audio layering supercut Produce a 1 minute video edit of your selected source, in which you edit together similar visuals (this could be a theme like “hands” or “curtains,” or it could be a type of shot or camera work like “all the close ups”). Your audio for this should be a selection of spoken word from your source, or audio that is not music from your source. You can combine these spoken word or non-music sounds with music if you want! The audio and visuals can line up some of the time or none of the time. If your source doesn’t have audio, you can choose audio from another source.
Vex 2.0 Vexercise 3:

Rhythmic Editing Produce a 1 minute video edit where you focus especially on rhythmic editing. Try your hand at time remapping at least once in this video. Choose an audio track that has a clear rhythmic pattern or interesting rhythmic progressions to make your editing experience easier. Reference the wave visualization of your audio track to help guide your editing choices. (If you’re up to it, make 2 versions, 1 that cuts primarily on the beat, another where you try syncopated editing (cutting on the *and*)
Happy vexercising! Can't wait to see what everyone makes!

I'm doing a LUT trial run of a vid ... now if only kdenlive would render the wipes I painstakingly put in there, agh. It seems it's a package issue so, uh, yay, I get to do IT troubleshooting over the weekend.

But! I have extra free LUTs: FreshLUTs. You technically need to register to download anything, but you can just make a fake name and tell them your e-mail is example@example.com

Here is mine for Audio Layering:

Spirits Released (斗罗大陆 | Douluo Continent)

Warnings for animal harm and death, plus lots of giant cgi spiders and snakes.

Managed to figure out exporting captions and uploading them on youtube! (Hopefully...)

Aaaand here is my colour one:

She's a Rainbow (斗罗大陆 | Douluo Continent)

I feel spoiled with having a source that is a) extremely colourful, and b) has lots of excellent female characters.

Okay, there, they fixed the package! Here is my vid: In Dreams, Bittersweet; Revenge of the Sith again. The source isn't super colorful – I could've done something with lightsaber colors, I guess, but I already sort of did that last vid – which meant I had an excellent opportunity to use LUTs! I used cool-toned LUTs whenever Palpatine was on scene and warm-toned ones otherwise. I did my best to make it blatant, as that was sort of The Point(TM) of the vid, and the vaguely dreamy look fit the vaguely dreamy music. Some of the shots ended up looking extremely pretty! Definitely using LUTs again.

A little late, but I made a Yuri on Ice one for coloring - it was fun to play with the colors :)

I've never really done anything with colouring before, so it was interesting to try :)

Probably sensible to stop there, things do not get less dark, yeah!

Thank you! I gave myself a lot of Victor feelings working on it, and I had a great time trying out color editing + the other effects :D I was startled by how much the coloring added to the mood when I watched my first draft after adding it!
