Vexercise 6 drops!!

And we are in the the advanced round // genre mashing/AU vexercise!

Produce a 1 minute video edit that combines your selected source with another source from a different genre (i.e. fantasy, western, sitcom, film noir), and/or use editing to transform the genre of your source text. Audio can be of your choosing.

This vexercise is inspired by the many amazing genre shifting AU vids coming out of Chinese vidding these days, but there are many histories to these types of genre mash ups. Share your favorites in the comments!

i have a question :3 so it is ok if we (try to) change the genre through the editing and adding music and subtitles and not use another source right?

Ramen Cowboy - Tampopo

As part of Vexercises exercise 6 I chose to reframe the movie Tampopo as a Western using Ennio Morricone's iconic theme song from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Some of the common Western tropes include:

The mysterious stranger riding into town - Goro
His trusty steed - Goro’s truck
Beautiful woman with a troubled past - Tampopo, a widow with a failing restaurant
A villain - Pisken, who harasses Tampopo about closing her restaurant
The gunfight - in this case a fistfight in the street
Riding off into the sunset

(and no i did not only do this cause i'm mad we wont get a second season when there was so much potential to make it exactly just this - lwj and wwx travelling, practicing cultivation, solving crime, and having little adventures :/)

I didn't have time to do the exercise this time BUT I wanted to slide in and share something I did a while ago that preemptively meets the criteria: Shadowhunters: Sin City trailer in which I took a favorite cheesy supernatural teen drama and turned it into a gritty detective noir movie trailer using the audio from the Sin City movie trailer and footage from Shadowhunters. My biggest regrets are 1) I wasn't as proficient with coloring back then and I would do it differently now, and 2) I didn't have logoless source because I was capping episodes with Movavi as they were airing on Freeform so if I could get logoless source without all the annoying ad text I would absolutely remaster this with clean footage.
thatyourefuse: Donna Hayward from Twin Peaks, in sunglasses. ([tp] fever isn't such a new thing)

The Windmills of Your Mind

... it's twice as long as it's supposed to be WHOOPS.

The hardest thing about this exercise was finding a genre that Twin Peaks hasn't actually canonically touched on at some point -- it's a horror! it's a soap! it's a teen drama! it's a noir! it's an art film! it's a procedural! it's a cosmic horror! it's a gritty cable drama! it's not not SF! it's a bird! it's a plane! it's Superman!

In the end, I had a long-standing AU idea that converted really nicely into a kind of circular-construction women's suspense fiction thing, so that's all right, then.
